Have you got I.T. in you?
Are you a digital native? Do you have an interest in technology and want to help others use technology in the classroom? Then maybe the Student Technical Assistance Team (STAT) is for you!
Overview of STAT
Your school is going to need some help this coming school year when every middle school teacher and student is provided with a MacBook loaded with educational and productivity software. Students and teachers alike will need some assistance with using their new MacBook and the software installed.
As a STAT member you will be a valuable resource in your school; providing technical assistance, software training and resource development to staff and students. You will be expected to perform basic troubleshooting of software and hardware, training on a particular software tools, and assisting teachers with the development of technology resources (e.g. Keynote slides, podcasts, movie segments) for use in their classroom.
You will receive training by district technology staff during the summer and through out each school year focusing on software and hardware used by the district, basic troubleshooting and customer service skills. During the summer training you will receive your MacBook so that you can become proficient in the skills necessary to succeed as a STAT member. Ongoing training will be provided during school hours as well as before/after school, much like other extra-curricular programs.
STAT is scheduled as an elective 'aide' course, and will require one period on your daily schedule.
Is STAT for You?
We need self motivated and dedicated students who can work with all staff and students as well as being able to work independently as a technology aide in the school building. Maybe the other extra-curricular options at your school are not interesting to you and there is no MMORPG student club for you to join. Perhaps you'd like a chance to show off your tech mojo; or maybe you'd like to improve your tech skills and gain some additional responsibilities and privileges. If so, then STAT is for you.
STAT students must be able to work professionally with all staff and students to help resolve technology issues or provide focused training and troubleshooting. Attendance is vital to being a successful STAT member. Students will be working under the supervision of a school technology specialist but will be expected to work independently in the school as they travel from room to room as needed.
STAT members will be expected to maintain an appropriate grade point average during their participation in the STAT program. While your GPA won't keep you from joining STAT, you will need to work at keeping your GPA within a specific range if you'd like to continue your participation.

How to Apply
Applications are open from April 12, 2010 through April 26, 2010.
If you decide that you'd like to participate in STAT you will be required to complete an application for review by your school principal. Your application to STAT will need to be approved by your parent/guardian as well since there are some requirements for attendance at training and activities which are outside the normal school day.
You are required to attend an orientation and training over the summer to participate in STAT. Be sure to confirm that you can attend a week long training in July.
